About Rosy Rings | In the News

OUR STORY
I’ve always dreaded telling my story: in the catalog, on the web and worse still, in person.  For starters, I’m camera shy and I’m pretty sure my likeness is required to appear within the vicinity of this paragraph.  I’m also an introvert.  At work, my greatest pleasure is sequestering myself in a corner of our factory and designing new products.

I’ve decided, however, that it’s important for me to emerge from my shell and tell my story.  More to the point, it’s important to tell Rosy Rings’ story.  My hope is that by knowing more about me and about my company you’ll get a better understanding of how our candles are made and, more specifically, you’ll feel pretty great about buying them.

Living in an urban area I understand that it can be difficult to connect to the beauty of nature. Candlemaking has always been a way for me to bring elements of nature into my home. A scoop of lavender, a wreath of dried leaves or an illuminated candle filled with botanicals are all small reminders of the beauty nature has to offer.

When a careless remark about a client cost me my job as a bike messenger I decided to turn my candle passion into a career. I naively applied to two national trade shows.  Things moved at lightning speed that first year as I moved from my kitchen to my basement, to a 1000 square foot Quonset hut to a 4400 square foot building.  I sold more candles than I thought possible and my net gain was… wait for it… $6000. I worked every day except Christmas.  Rosy Rings was born.

OUR CANDLES
We still hand produce all of our candles right here in Denver, and a few tweaks notwithstanding we still make them the same way we did 13 years ago.

Take our Botanical Candles: Turn one over and you can see it's actually two candles. The entire process of pouring, stuffing, repouring, melting the edges, wrapping it and the countless other tasks which take two whole days! And because this point bears repeating: all of this is done by hand. Our Botanical candles are just too complex to be mass-produced.

With such a labor intensive product, some people wonder why even bother. Why not just set up production overseas for a fraction of the cost? The answer is simple: it wouldn't be the "same" product. Our staff takes pride in our candles. Would a worker thousands of miles away take the time to inspect every Botanical Candle as it comes out of the mold? We doubt it.

More importantly, we like being here and we like giving back to our community. We like having baby showers and birthday parties, providing a decent wage, good benefits and watching our staff grow. It's just fun to come to work. We also believe that it means something when you're able to call us and talk to a friendly person with a real connection to our products.

OUR COMMITMENT
From birds to fruit to assorted fauna, you'll find them all inside our botanical candles.   Since our line is inspired by nature it's only fitting that we do our best to treat the environment responsibly. Our manufacturing facility is powered solely by wind energy.   We're committed to using natural products like beeswax and vegetable waxes. Our glass bottles contain 40% recycled glass. In addition to recycling almost all the plastic, metal, glass and cardboard used in our production facility, we also use biodegradable shipping popcorn and when possible reuse shipping materials. Rosy Rings works in conjunction with Pathways Production, a Colorado non-profit which provides jobs to developmentally disabled adults. When you open a shipment of our handmade candles know that the workers at Pathways constructed the box.  Rosy Rings annually donates 15% of its profits to charity. Past recipients include: The National Resources Defense Counsel, Wild B.I.R.D., The Elephant Sanctuary, World Wildlife Fund, American Bird Conservancy, The Humane Society of the United States and the MaxFund.
